Engineering Manager – AI Product (Remote, Europe)

About the role

Our client, a European technology company operating a cloud and infrastructure platform, is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead a small, high‑leverage AI team. The role combines people management with hands‑on technical leadership, overseeing AI product development and model‑inference infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

• Manage, coach and grow a team of AI/ML engineers and researchers, handling hiring, performance and career development.
• Own delivery of AI‑enabled projects, turning ambiguous product goals into concrete engineering plans.
• Co‑own the roadmap and operations of the inference offering, ensuring reliability, low latency, cost efficiency and scalability.
• Partner with research scientists to move models from experimentation to production, balancing rigor with shipping speed.
• Set engineering standards for code quality, experimentation, evaluation, on‑call duties and incident response.
• Report progress, risks and capacity to senior leadership and represent the team in roadmap discussions.

Required profile

• 7+ years in technical leadership or engineering management, preferably with AI/ML teams.
• Proven experience building and operating AI/ML platforms or inference infrastructure in production.
• Strong understanding of the AI/ML lifecycle, from model training to deployment.
• Ability to manage researchers and engineers with differing work styles and definitions of “done”.
• Excellent communication skills to translate technical trade‑offs for both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.

Required skills

• Model inference and serving frameworks (e.g., vLLM, Triton).
• GPU scheduling, batching, quantization, latency/throughput optimization.
• Experience with AI/ML platforms, LLMs and distributed systems at scale.
