Job description

About the role

We are seeking a hands‑on Senior Vehicle Controls Engineer to lead the development of the software that transforms a planned trajectory into safe, stable and comfortable steering, braking and acceleration commands on real vehicles. The role involves designing, implementing, tuning and testing control algorithms on physical prototypes and validating them through track and road testing.

Key responsibilities

Design and implement lateral and longitudinal control algorithms for cars, autonomous vehicles or similar wheeled platforms.
Develop production‑quality real‑time control software in C++, C or equivalent languages.
Integrate and validate steering, throttle, braking and drive‑by‑wire interfaces using CAN bus and vehicle signal protocols.
Perform system modeling, identification, simulation and log analysis with Python, MATLAB or similar tools.
Conduct hardware‑in‑the‑loop, vehicle‑in‑the‑loop and on‑vehicle testing, including tuning, performance measurement and safety verification.
Collaborate with hardware teams to debug and refine control loops on real vehicles.

Required profile

Proven experience delivering at least one complete vehicle control system from concept to physical deployment.
Strong understanding of feedback control, stability, dynamic systems and vehicle dynamics.
Hands‑on experience with CAN bus, actuator command interfaces and real‑time embedded software.
Ability to work directly with vehicle hardware and participate in track or road testing.

Feedback control, vehicle dynamics, stability analysis
Hardware‑in‑the‑loop (HIL) and vehicle‑in‑the‑loop testing
Embedded Linux, RTOS, safety‑critical real‑time systems
Functional safety standards (ISO 26262, SOTIF)
Familiarity with Openpilot, Autoware, Apollo, ROS, CarSim, IPG CarMaker, dSPACE
