Junior System Administrator / DevOps Engineer

About the role

SMARTSOFT is seeking a motivated Junior System Administrator/DevOps Engineer to join its IT team. This entry‑level position offers hands‑on experience with both Linux and Windows environments, virtualization, and modern DevOps tooling.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in the administration of Linux (Ubuntu, Rocky) and Windows Server machines.
• Monitor servers, services, applications and infrastructure health.
• Troubleshoot basic system, network and application issues.
• Apply OS updates, security patches and configuration changes.
• Work with VMware ESXi virtual machines and assist in VM provisioning.
• Learn to build and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitLab CI/CD.
• Support Docker container deployment and acquire Kubernetes fundamentals.
• Participate in backup and recovery operations.
• Automate repetitive tasks with Bash, PowerShell or Python.
• Maintain technical documentation and internal procedures.

Required profile

• 1+ year of experience or academic exposure to system administration or DevOps.
• Basic knowledge of Linux and Windows server administration.
• Understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, routing, ports and firewalls.
• Familiarity with command‑line usage on Linux.
• Interest in virtualization concepts and cloud‑native technologies.
• Strong problem‑solving attitude and willingness to learn.
