Senior Software Engineer (Go, Engine)

About the role

Workato is the Control and Execution Platform for Enterprise AI, uniting data, applications and processes so AI can orchestrate business processes at enterprise scale. The Engine team develops and maintains core components of the Workato Recipe runtime, including recipe execution, DSL, event pulling, webhook processing and job execution, and owns the trigger and event infrastructure. The current focus is modernizing a high-throughput platform to improve reliability, scalability and long-term evolvability. The role is remote and open to candidates based in Germany, Armenia, Georgia, Portugal, Poland, the Netherlands, Serbia, Greece and Spain.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement distributed backend systems in Go, with attention to performance and memory behavior, for runtime components under high concurrency and throughput.
• Apply deep knowledge of Go internals (scheduler, memory model, garbage collection) to improve system efficiency.
• Design and optimize concurrent workflows using goroutines, channels, synchronization primitives and context propagation.
• Analyze and optimize slice usage, memory allocations and data structures for performance-critical paths.
• Improve the execution engine for custom third-party code (isolation, performance, feature extensions).
• Modernize runtime components with a focus on modularity, structured architecture and observability.
• Improve trigger configuration and execution across webhooks and polling mechanisms.
• Integrate and optimize data storage solutions (Postgres, S3, DynamoDB, Kafka, ClickHouse).
• Identify bottlenecks, race conditions and deadlocks in distributed systems.
• Own initiatives end-to-end, from design to rollout and production support, and conduct code reviews focused on correctness, concurrency safety and performance.

Required profile

• 7+ years of experience building scalable distributed backend applications.
• BS/MS degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related subject, with 7+ years of industry experience.
• Good understanding of network protocols and stacks, and of classic and modern NoSQL databases.
• Multilingual programming experience; the codebase is primarily Ruby, moving toward Go and Rust.
• Readiness to work remotely with teams spread across the world and time zones.
