Principal Engineer - Software (C/C++, Qt, MSVC, Linux)

About the role

We are looking for a Principal Engineer – Software to lead the design and development of high‑performance applications that run on both Windows and Linux platforms. The role sits within Microchip Technology’s embedded‑control division and will own critical software components used across a broad portfolio of microcontrollers and system‑on‑chip products.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain high‑performance software applications using C/C++ and the Qt framework.
• Write and maintain build and automation scripts in Python, Bash, Perl or PowerShell to streamline compilation, testing and deployment pipelines.
• Lead compiler and build‑tool upgrades, ensuring cross‑platform compatibility and performance.
• Collaborate with hardware and firmware teams to integrate software with microcontroller and FPGA products.
• Mentor junior engineers and drive best‑practice coding standards.

Required profile

• Minimum 12 years of hands‑on software engineering experience.
• Deep expertise in Windows and Linux development environments.
• Proven track record delivering complex C/C++ and Qt applications.
• Experience managing large code bases and leading technical initiatives.
