Staff Engineer – R&D Engineering

About the role

Synopsys is seeking a Staff Engineer to lead the design and development of software tools that automate repetitive tasks in semiconductor design and verification. You will bridge VLSI, EDA and AI domains to create solutions that boost engineering productivity across the company.

Key responsibilities

• Design and build scalable software tools that automate VLSI, EDA and physical‑design workflows.
• Develop AI‑assisted and agent‑based solutions, evaluate emerging LLMs and automation frameworks, and prototype deployments for internal teams.
• Collaborate with CAD, physical‑design and verification engineers to identify pain points and translate them into robust software services and APIs.
• Create proof‑of‑concepts and production‑grade applications, then iterate based on real‑world usage.
• Maintain orchestration systems that connect tools, data sources and automation layers.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of software development experience in automation, CAD, EDA or related engineering domains.
• Strong understanding of software architecture, algorithms, data structures and object‑oriented design.
• Proven ability to work across interdisciplinary teams and translate domain knowledge into software solutions.

Required skills

• Python programming and scripting.
• API design and development.
• AI technologies, including large language models (LLMs) and automation frameworks.
• Experience with CAD/EDA tools and VLSI/physical‑design workflows.
• Software architecture, algorithms, data structures, object‑oriented design principles.
