Head of Asset Management

About the role

This role leads the investment function of an asset management business, managing portfolios for institutional and private clients and overseeing the development of investment products. It combines portfolio management, research, risk oversight and team leadership.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement investment strategies for institutional and private clients, covering asset allocation, security selection, portfolio construction and rebalancing in line with objectives, risk appetite and liquidity needs.
• Analyse economic developments, local and international markets, issuers and opportunities, with a focus on fixed income, and turn research, credit analysis and valuation into investment recommendations.
• Monitor exposures, limits and performance, run stress tests and performance attribution, recommend corrective actions and report to investment committees, management and clients.
• Lead the design, launch and ongoing management of investment funds, model portfolios and tailored mandates, coordinating structure, guidelines, pricing and implementation.
• Work with wealth management and distribution teams to attract and retain assets under management, develop proposals and take part in client presentations and portfolio reviews.
• Set business priorities, recruit and develop the investment team, establish policies and decision-making processes, and coordinate with brokerage, operations, custody, risk and compliance.

Required profile

• Around 7+ years of relevant experience, especially leading an investment team or setting up an asset management function.
• Proven portfolio management experience, including direct responsibility for investment decisions and recommendations, substantial fixed income exposure and the ability to explain past decisions, results and risks.
• Experience launching or managing investment funds, including product structuring, valuation, liquidity arrangements and investor reporting.
• Experience managing HNW portfolios or multi-asset strategies, including tailored mandates, equities, ETFs and funds.
• University degree in finance, economics, accounting, mathematics or a related discipline.
• Strong written and spoken Armenian, Russian and English.
• CFA charter or substantial progress towards it, and/or a relevant postgraduate qualification, is an advantage.

Required skills

• Technical investment skills: credit analysis, bond valuation, portfolio construction, risk management and performance assessment.
• Hands-on proficiency in Bloomberg and Excel, including market data extraction, bond screening, risk monitoring and financial modelling.
• Ability to present investment views clearly to management and clients.
