ML Engineer (Computer Vision Focus)

About the role

Align is looking for a Machine Learning Engineer to join its cross-functional, global Manufacturing Software Development organization. The role sits at the intersection of computer vision, 3D geometry, multimodal AI and advanced manufacturing, applying machine learning to improve manufacturing operations and the production of millions of custom medical devices. The position is based in Yerevan.

Key responsibilities

• Research, evaluate and apply state-of-the-art machine learning techniques to improve medical device manufacturing processes.
• Design, develop and optimize deep learning models for 3D meshes and geometric data, images, and structured and tabular data.
• Build multimodal AI solutions combining information from multiple data sources.
• Perform model validation, performance analysis, error investigation and continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with software engineers, architects, manufacturing specialists and product teams to integrate models into 3D CAD/CAM systems.
• Establish and maintain ML development and experimentation workflows, and document technical approaches and validation results.
• Own assigned ML components through maintenance, monitoring and enhancement, and stay current with emerging research.

Required profile

• Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, AI, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Data Science or a related field.
• 4-6 years of industry experience developing and deploying ML solutions in commercial environments.
• Strong programming skills in Python; hands-on experience with PyTorch or an equivalent framework.
• Good understanding of semantic and instance segmentation, object detection and classification, and transformer architectures.
• Strong mathematical foundation in linear algebra, optimization, probability and statistics, Bayesian methods and analytical geometry.
• Ability to read scientific literature and turn research into practical solutions, plus strong communication skills and English at B2 or higher.
• Preferred: experience integrating ML models into C++ applications, 3D CAD/CAM systems, cloud deployment, MLOps, SQL, and regulated environments such as medical devices or manufacturing.
